The Uttar Pradesh government transferred 38 IPS officers, Among those transferred, two DIGs, four SSPs and six SPs have been attached to the DGP headquarters (Hqs) — a provision that is regarded as more of a punishment than gallery for officers awaiting posting.
Coming after the recent transfer of IAS officers, the IPS reshuffle is being seen as the final one before the general elections are notified.
A host of SP MLAs, district-level leaders and party candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, during their recent meetings with SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav, had pointed fingers as various district police chiefs accusing them of non-cooperation.
The SP chief had then assured the party workers that such officers will be sent packing soon. The fact that 12 of the 38 officers transferred on Friday have been attached to the DGP headquarters and not accommodated elsewhere in non-district postings, adds weight to the belief that SP workers had complaint against these officers.
