With several foreign leaders were in New Delhi for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, South Block had roped in its former chief of protocol Ruchira Kamboj to manage protocol affairs in the Capital.

While understanding other people’s languages, cultures, etiquettes and taboos is of great value to a person visiting another country, it is equally important that as a host, especially if you happen to be the Prime Minister of India, you take good care to ensure that proper protocol is maintained.

The leaders of the eight SAARC member countries, attended the Narendra Modi government’s swearing-in ceremony on 26.05.2014.

Some term this as a mini-summit and a lot of media attention is of course on whether or not the Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the same.

Ruchira Kamboj, who recently left for Paris as India’s envoy at UNESCO, is the most experienced hand in dealing with the protocol staff of all countries.

She had handled several multilateral meetings in Delhi – BRICS, Asia-Europe meeting and IOR-ARC to name a few — in the past three years.
